Why happy ending massages are overhyped and boring, and the one absolutely epic thing most guys avoid, that is vastly, vastly underappreciated.
Let’s go. 3 negatives, 1 positive.
1. Foot Massages, NEVER AGAIN
I have had exactly 1 foot massage in my entire life, and I am not sure if I will have another one – ever. Even if it were free. I never understood what the hype was all about, then I tried it once and it was exactly as expected.
The idea that I have this person sit right in front of me for half and hour or an hour is already so unappealing, then perhaps a bunch of people sitting next to me.
For legitimate foot ache or medical issues, sure, absolutely. But I never saw the appeal of getting 6 foot massages every week because it feels so amazing.
I know this is in stark contrast to a lot of guys who absolutely love cheap footage massages in Thailand.
Sports massage, or some massages that say have some “long-term” benefits, sure, absolutely. But just like getting a foot massage, nah, I’ll pass on that.
And the only reason I got that one foot massage was because my feet were so tense that I couldn’t even sleep. In hindsight for that crap-like experience, some electrolytes would’ve probably also done the job. Most likely, just some sodium, or as insiders call it “salt”.
2. Nuru/Soapy Massages Are Boring
I’ve had a bunch of these, and have mixed feelings.
I would say the general setup, the fishbowl, etc. is an interesting experience. Definitely something I’d recommend to anyone just for the experience’s sake.
And as I am making this video, I am thinking, should I include Nuru/Soapy massages, or should I leave them out. I know a lot of guys absolutely love them, they find it very exciting, it’s on top of their list for things to do when going to Thailand.
So, I don’t want to spoil the fun. Particularly because my experience doesn’t mean everyone feels that way.
I just don’t find them exciting – that’s the best way I can describe those types of happy ending massages. There’s a very long build-up if you know what I mean, and I want to just go (I hope you know what I mean, that’s as much as I can say here on YouTube).
So, it feels like a lot of waiting … and it’s not like the massage parts is so super exciting and worth paying a premium for.
Going to a freelancer club, meeting someone from online dating is a hell of a lot more exciting than such a Nuru/Soapy massage.
Speaking of clubs, now I will say something that might surprise, or even shock you …
3. I’m Not A Gogo Bar Guy
Gogo bars can be super fun if you are drinking or drunk already. Or just heading there with a buddy, particularly if on one of your first nights.
But as a regular thing, I just don’t get the appeal of gogo bars. Or perhaps a better way to say it is, YES, I understand the appeal, but the appeal for me only lasts about a minutes. OK, I see all these nice girls, and now what? I get bored looking at them very quickly.
Now I can get some of them to sit and talk with me, playing around, etc. all ok. All something buddies of mine like and enjoy doing regularly, but for me, very overhyped. I’d much rather do that exact same thing at a freelancers club.
Overall, if I had to guess why I don’t like these experiences that I call overhyped, it’s because of pace and control. The stuff that I like is usually faster pace and I am taking on the active part. Not the waiting, just being passive part.
Which brings me to my last, and most important insight. And that’s the opposite, it’s what I thing is vastly underhyped.
4. Thailand Solo Travel = EPIC
Talk about setting your own pace, being active. That’s why I always enjoyed solo travel so much. No waiting for someone, not making plans, no depending on someone “hey, do you wanna go? please, please, let’s go, I can’t go by myself”.
It’s fucking annoying. I hate depending on someone.
You want to stay. Your buddy wants to go home. Or vice versa.
Freedom. Doing stuff on your own. That’s the way to go, IMO.
It’s like I want to stay or leave, I can instantly act upon that. There’s no waiting on someone else.
Going to Thailand alone. Going out alone. Vastly underhyped. Most guys don’t go to Thailand because they don’t have any buddies to go with. Otherwise it will be boring. It won’t be.
Doing stuff with other guys is cool, and I’ve done it. I will probably do it again, but I would only recommend it after you’ve had the solo experience. Now you do it with friends because you want to, not because you have to.
And Thailand – and Asia in general is different when it comes to travel solo, going out solo. It’s hard to describe for someone who has only gone out in Western countries because that experience is mostly people being in their own groups, nobody talking to you, and you just being alone all night. What’s the point, you ask yourself. I’m not going out alone again.
But Thailand is different. First off, people usually talk to you naturally. Or a Thai group invites you to drink with them. And the bigger thing to keep in mind: very touristy. so you going out solo→ there are dozens, if not hundreds of other guys doing the same. so at any venue there’s other foreigner guys doing the same. so it’s super easy to link up or talk with someone.
So, just some honest thoughts. I say don’t skip massages just because I don’t like them. Experience everything for yourself, but don’t feel weird if everyone tells you how amazing they are but you don’t like them. We’re in the same boat.
