Thailand mistakes that will absolutely destroy you. The good news is that almost all of these mistakes can be avoided. The bad news is that you won’t read about these on any mainstream travel sites, not will any of it be mentioned in many of the generic Thailand travel videos.
So, let’s get started …
1. Sucked Into Long Game
This one is interesting because it is the complete opposite of what you hear about Thailand. Thailand is all about money, money, money, money! So, most guys will be sensitized in regards to girls wanting money, or some form of compensation. In a way, guys have their guards up.
BUT … what if you meet a girl, perhaps even a working girl, a freelancer, and suddenly not only is she NOT asking for money. Quite the opposite, she is paying for stuff. For the taxi, for food, etc.
Right, you drop your guard because you think obviously she is different. If she is paying for stuff, she must not be after money.
And right there in this moment, you have been sucked into long game. Long game is the buy & hold version of dating. Instead of making a quick buck, the girl’s intention is to invest – yeah, literally invest – a tiny amount of money in you hoping to reap the rewards later – when she suddenly needs a new phone, or has an emergency.
It is smart because the upfront investment, paying for a taxi, paying for a $1 meal is not much, but the gesture means a lot for guys’ ego. “Oh man, this hot girls didn’t even ask me for money, hell, she even paid for my stuff!!! Damn I’m so great!”
I am not saying this is every girl you meet; by no means am I saying that. I’m just saying that this is a possibility and its one way guys get absolutely destroyed. So, while you are having fun, be aware of it!
2. All Advice IS WRONG
Your Thailnd trip can be the trip of a lifetime. It can also be a complete disaster. So, what is the defining factor? What makes the difference?
I guess it won’t come as a surprise if I say that most of what makes a trip good, or bad is under your control.
I often get asked where to stay. Which bar is the best? Where to go for after hours clubbing? How much should I pay?
While I am happy to answer what I would do, that doesn’t mean those answer are right for you. BUT giving valuable recommendations all depends on you …
So … before asking where, what, and how … it all starts with figuring out what you want in the first place. You see, it’s a hell of a lot easier to give precise recommendation when I know precisely what you want.
… and you will have a much easier time getting exactly what you want as well. Each one of us has different expectations for hotels, nightlife, girls, and so on.
The main point I’m trying to make here: get clear on what you want – and clarity is power.
And then comes the second part of the equation: Who is giving you advice?
You see, even something as trivial as what constitutes an attractive women, a hot Thai girl can be totally different from one guy to the next. An older Thailand vet might have a different taste compared to a 20 year old first- time visitor. But recommendations are often made without the proper details – so, you simply read about the best bar, the hottest girls – without knowing the details, seeing pics, or more.
My point here: First figure out what you want, then listen to advice from people you trust.
3. Your Matches Are FAKE
One popular way of meeting Thai girls as well as freelancers is of course online dating. There are various freelancers sites, but there’s also online dating.
It is important for you to know that a lot of freelancers (aka working girls) use dating sites to meet customers. There’s nothing wrong with that if you know what you are getting yourself into, i.e. if you are looking for a freelancer.
But if you are not, you might be tricked into thinking that all these hot girls are liking you, or even initiating the conversation because they are interested in you, while in reality they are looking for a paying customers.
Most of the hot girls fall into this category. Especially if they initiate the conversation. So, you can politely ask if she is a freelancer at the beginning of the conversation. Otherwise you’ll end up wasting a lot of time and being frustrated. You talk to what you think is a stunner interested in you, only for her to disclose what she’s after right before meeting you.
You should also be somewhat realistic in regards to expecations. Yes, Thai women – even the normal ones – are interested in Westeners. But there are limits to this; if you think it’s normal for a 21 year old hotties to be interested in you just because you are 75 year old foreigner, you are delusional. And that delusion can wreck you trip at best, your life at worst.
